During her 11 years as executive director of admissions at Rice University’s Jones Graduate School of Business, Melissa Blakeslee provided strategic direction to the admissions team, reviewed thousands of applications, and read more than 20,000 essays—experience that equipped her well to guide her mbaMission clients through the challenging application process. She earned her own MBA, with a focus on marketing and strategy, from the Kellogg School of Management, where she was an active member of the Marketing Club and helped lead student orientation during her second year. As an alumna, she began conducting alumni interviews for Kellogg and discovered her passion for admissions work.
Melissa also possesses her CPA and a BBA in accounting from the University of Michigan, so before committing her career to MBA admissions, she worked on the Assurance Services team at Ernst & Young and as an analyst at Accenture. In addition, she conducted financial analyses and made recommendations on product development decisions at Ford Motor Company and later led the development and launch of a new line of fruit drinks as an associate brand manager with The Coca-Cola Company. Melissa now leverages her professional background with her profound understanding of what drives admission committee decisions to help applicants craft compelling and unique stories.
