MBA News: Wall Street Journal Reports on Application Volume

By now, this is a familiar refrain – “applications volumes are going up!” Well, the Wall Street Journal offers paranoid applicants even more data confirming the trend in its article this morning, “Escape Route: Seeking Refuge in an MBA Program.”

  • NYU has seen a 30% increase in attendance at its outreach events
  • Campus visits at Michigan have more than doubled
  • GMAT registration has risen by 5.1%
  • Chicago has seen “significant increases” in online queries  and attendance at information sessions

What can you do about the surge in applications? Not much – try to ignore others and simply put together your best possible application. Further, you may want to consider your risks and determine whether you are reaching or “safe” at certain schools or throughout your “portfolio.”  If you don’t feel “safe” and want to be sure that you will be enrolled  next year, you might add new schools to your list.
