MBA News: The Economist’s 2010 Business School Rankings

This year’s Global Full-Time MBA rankings from The Economist were recently published, with the University of Chicago Booth School of Business taking the top spot and North American schools taking seven of the top ten places on the list. This year’s list includes many changes, likely a result of the tough job market. (Career opportunities and salaries for graduates hold a combined weight of 55% in these rankings.) European MBA programs seem to have been affected more, however, with average GMAT scores and starting salaries for graduates at these schools dropping more than those of American MBA applicants and graduates. In fact, GMAT scores seem to be up at many MBA programs in the United States, including Chicago Booth.

We at mbaMission advise applicants to view rankings with a healthy dose of skepticism, as they tend to fluctuate dramatically from year to year and from publication to publication. The Economist uses a variety of methods to calculate its rankings, though unlike other popular MBA rankings, it primarily uses data collected from students and alumni.
