MBA News: Recruiters Spare No Expense at Top Schools

Whereas graduates of lower-ranked business schools may face uncertain job prospects, recruitment seems to be flourishing at the nation’s top MBA programs. As many business students pursue an increasingly diverse range of career goals, a number of companies are looking for a competitive edge in the recruitment process. A Financial Times article this month reports that recruiters with major firms, such as Deloitte Consulting and Boston Consulting Group, have been rolling out the red carpet for graduates of top schools, in some cases courting students even before they begin their MBA studies. Jack Gainer, chief executive of the online recruiting platform MBA Focus, reports that on average, companies will spend 10K to 20K per MBA hire, sponsoring dinners and events and giving prospective recruits a great deal of personalized attention. The Graduate Management Admissions Council’s 2012 survey of more than 1,000 recruiters predicts that recruiting costs will continue to rise as companies compete for top talent.
