MBA News: Despite Wider Acceptance of GRE Scores, GMAT Still Preferred

Although more and more business schools are viewing the GRE as an acceptable alternative to the GMAT, prospective students are nonetheless sticking with the latter. Kaplan Test Prep reports that 69% of business schools now allow applicants to submit GRE scores in lieu of GMAT scores, an increase of 45% since 2009. Still, nearly half the schools surveyed reported that fewer than 10% of applicants opted to go the GRE route. And while 69% of schools claimed that both scores are given equal consideration, 29% said that GMAT scores give MBA applicants the advantage, perhaps warranting some hesitation. Kaplan advises that candidates who are set on business school would be better off taking the GMAT, whereas those who are less certain about what kind of graduate program they might want to end up in should consider taking the GRE.
