Position Description
Senior Consultants work directly with mbaMission clients to guide them through the MBA admissions process, either “from start to finish” as part of our comprehensive package services, on an hourly basis, or in the form of targeted pre-application services, including mock interview sessions and reviews of unsuccessful previous applications. In addition, consultants engage as a team during bi-weekly staff calls and at our annual conference, serve as a resource for their mbaMission colleagues, and contribute to projects that help develop and grow the firm’s business. mbaMission has established an extensive training process to develop a team committed to successful admissions consulting for years to come.
Responsibilities
- Manage client relationships while providing strategic guidance on school selection, essays, resumes, recommendations, interviews, and the overall admissions process
- Work closely with clients to create effective essays and resumes by giving them direction on structure, editing their work, and helping them craft strong narratives, while maintaining their voice
- Conduct free consultations to educate potential clients about their candidacies and mbaMission as a firm
- Proactively stay up-to-date on the MBA admissions process and programs to advise prospective and existing clients on appropriate school selection and the nuances of applying to business school
- Contribute to firm business development (e.g., participate in staff meetings, conduct presentations, create consultant resources, develop new revenue streams)
Qualifications
- Admissions experience strongly preferred
- Excellent written and oral communications; portfolio of published work or reasonable proxy required (e.g., ad copy or Web sites, or have served as editor of a publication); strong presentation skills
- MBA or PhD from a top U.S. or international business school
- At least 3–4 years of post-MBA work experience
- Capacity to work well independently and the ability to organize and manage multiple tasks within demanding deadlines
- Ability to “connect” with people and build rapport with potential and current clients
- Personable demeanor and comfort with public speaking
- Availability and flexibility to work seasonal hours, which may include weekday evenings and weekends
- Admissions experience a plus
Time Commitment
The Senior Consultant role is considered a full-time position with a very heavy season during the late summer, fall, and early winter. Senior Consultants can expect to dedicate 50–70 hours per week during this time, which is followed by a lengthy quiet season.
Compensation
mbaMission is committed to paying Senior Consultants at the highest levels in the industry. A dedicated consultant is likely to earn approximately $100K-$120K in his/her first full season. Experienced mbaMission consultants will typically earn between $130K-$170K per year with some earning as much as $300K.
