Today, we profile\u00a0<strong>Edward Altman<\/strong>\u00a0from\u00a0<\/em><em>New York University\u2019s (NYU\u2019s) Leonard N. Stern School of Business<\/em><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-9214\" style=\"margin: 5px;\" title=\"Edward Altman\" src=\"https:\/\/www.mbamission.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/06\/Edward-Altman.jpg\" alt=\" width=\"208\" height=\"235\" align=\"right\" \/>Named to NYU Stern\u2019s Max L. Heine endowed professorship in 1988, <strong>Edward Altman <\/strong>(\u201cCorporate Finance\u201d and \u201cBankruptcy and Reorganization\u201d)\u00a0is also the director of research in credit and debt markets at the Salomon Center for the Study of Financial Institutions. Considered an expert on credit risk analysis, distressed debt and corporate bankruptcy, Altman earned both his MBA and his PhD from the University of California, Los Angeles. In 2005, <em>Treasury and Risk <\/em>magazine named Altman one of the \u201c100 Most Influential People in Finance.\u201d \u201cBankruptcy and Reorganization\u201d is a course he has taught for more than 30 years at Stern, and he notes in the course syllabus that the class \u201chas evolved in an interesting way.\u201d Through case studies, lectures and guest speakers, students study the valuation and analysis of distressed firms. A second year noted in a November 2011 Stern student blog post, \u201cI took \u2018Bankruptcy\u2019 with Professor Edward Altman, who was obviously impressive.
