If you are unsure about how to proceed on a project, consider asking for support with this language: \u201cI am not clear on what my next steps should be, but here\u2019s what I am thinking. Am I on the right track?\u201d or \u201cI am thinking about doing X next but wanted to confirm that with you first.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"ask_for_and_incorporate_feedback\"><\/span>Ask for and incorporate feedback.\u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Get specifics using language like \u201cThis week,&nbsp;X happened. I\u2019d love your thoughts on how I could have handled this situation better. Can we discuss it more?\u201d Pay attention to nonverbal feedback; notice the changes\/edits made to your work product, and ask why they were made. If you are struggling, request templates or samples of strong work product.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"get_to_know_your_team\"><\/span>Get to know your team.\u00a0<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"4\" class=\"wp-block-list\"><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participate in office activities, ask colleagues to lunch, and consider joining affinity groups. Gather information on each person\u2019s working style; ask questions like \u201cWhat do you need from me to ensure that we\u2019re doing our best work?\u201d Show appreciation for your team\u2019s support and guidance.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"maintain_a_positive_mindset\"><\/span><strong>Maintain a positive mindset.\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Feeling overwhelmed (or even underqualified) when you start a new job is common, so do not worry. If you were an expert at your new job on Day 1, you would be bored by Day 30. Each day is a new opportunity to learn.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"share_your_new_job_with_your_network\"><\/span><strong>Share your new job with your network.\u00a0<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Add your new role to the experience section of your LinkedIn profile, and post an announcement of it, along with a note of appreciation to those who helped you land it. Be curious. Have fun. Build relationships. Learn new things.
