mbaMission Consultant Spotlight: Liza Weale

At mbaMission, our consultants are more than just graduates of the world’s top MBA programs—we are also expert communicators who possess an unparalleled knowledge of the admissions process. Each week, we highlight one member of our team who has committed his/her professional life to helping you get into business school.

Liza WealeLiza Weale stepped away from a career in private sector technology to earn her MBA at the MIT Sloan School of Management, where, among other activities, she coached her classmates on crafting effective cover letters and resumes as the teaching assistant for the first-year “Communications” course. After graduating, Liza began a new career in management consulting with Bain & Company, where she worked with clients in the areas of education, health care and consumer products, while in her free time guiding her associate consultants through the MBA admissions process. She also served on the Bain at MIT Sloan recruiting team to help attract, hire and coach Sloan first and second years. She later joined Scholastic as director of product marketing for its fledgling math programs, which she grew by five times in two years, all the while advising junior colleagues and acquaintances on their business school applications. Wanting to further her marketing expertise, Liza then became executive director of Kaplan Test Prep’s GMAT and GRE business lines, not only owning the programs’ strategic decisions but also heading up all marketing and curriculum development efforts. Although she is well known at Kaplan for her work rewriting and editing customer-facing brochures, Web sites, textbooks, speeches, scripts, newsletters and emails, her true passion lies in helping people “market” themselves in their MBA applications. Liza volunteers with the MIT Sloan Alumni Club and serves as an alumni officer for her class.

Quick Facts:

Received MBA from: MIT Sloan
Undergraduate field of study: International affairs—my real goal was to learn French, but I didn’t want to read all that Flaubert and Camus, so I chose international affairs and studied in France for a year.
Fields worked in before mbaMission: Consulting and brand/product management
Working style: I view the relationship as a partnership. I do my best thinking in the morning. I’m optimistic and positive by nature, but I am direct and honest in my feedback.

What Past Clients are Saying:

“Liza was super friendly, super patient and super supportive through all the rejects—that actually helped a lot! To sum it up, I’d recommend Liza very strongly. You can definitely count on her to bring out the best in you.”

“Liza Weale at mbaMission was just an incredible partner to tackle the B-school applications with. You want her in your corner, not just because of her grasp of the MBA application process and ability to polish your personal stories into compelling narratives, but more importantly, for her passion for helping applicants discover and express themselves.”

“If you are considering using an MBA admissions consultant, I would highly recommend Liza. She helped me demonstrate the best version of me through my applications and not a prepackaged idea of what business schools want. I am super pleased with my experience with Liza, and, I think, the results speak for themselves.”
