MBA News: Chicago Booth Professor Heads Reserve Bank of India

Raghuram Rajan, a finance professor at Chicago Booth, was appointed governor of the Reserve Bank of India last week. According to a press release from the school, Rajan has served as chief economic advisor to the Indian government for the past year and as honorary economic adviser to the country’s prime minister from 2008 to 2012. “We at Chicago Booth are very proud that one of our preeminent scholars is going to lead the central bank of a major country, and we believe this will be good for India,” said Dean Sunil Kumar, adding, “In turn, his experience in India will be extremely valuable to his research and his teaching when he returns.” While this adds to the prestige of the school, do not count on taking a class with Professor Rajan anytime soon. Obviously, he will be taking a leave of absence from Chicago Booth while serving as governor.
