MBA News: B-School Application Volume Possibly on the Rise

Although official data from most business schools will not be available until the end of summer, some early numbers show that application volumes may be up this year, according to an article in the Wall Street Journal. Cornell’s Johnson Graduate School of Management saw a 16% increase in applications, due in part to more aggressive recruiting, and Penn State’s Smeal College of Business reported a more than 14% increase. But not all schools are seeing such a dramatic bounce back—Harvard Business School saw a decrease in applications of about 2%, and MIT Sloan is down 7.9%. It looks like some might be more optimistic about job prospects post graduation, but we will see how other schools report later in the summer.
