MBA News: Relationship Improving Between B-Schools and Consultants

Yesterday, in part one of a three-part series on MBA admissions counseling, the new online MBA community Poets and Quants delved into the complicated relationship between admissions committees and consultants, ultimately determining that business schools are becoming more accepting of MBA admissions consultants like mbaMission. In the article, P&Q estimates that one-quarter to one-third of applicants to the top ten business schools now use consulting services, and posits that as many as one-half of Harvard, Stanford and Wharton’s applicants engage consultants. Jeremy Shinewald, mbaMission’s founder and president, is quoted extensively in the article, commenting on the newly warmed relationship: “[Schools] can use us as a marketing tool to reach more people than they would going out on the road…we’re part of the communication channel for them in a way that’s very cheap and easy.” Evidence of this trend can be found on our own Web site, where we have posted our exclusive interviews with admissions officers from many of the leading MBA programs. We were pleased to see that P&Q listed mbaMission as a one of the “leading players” in MBA admissions consulting.
