MBA News: Johns Hopkins’ Carey Business School launches a Global MBA

There’s a New Kid on the MBA Block.

On October 21, 2009, at the New York Stock Exchange, the Carey Business School at Johns Hopkins University launched its Global MBA; the first class will enter in August 2010.  With a mission to “develop global business leaders and transform organizations, communities and society through discovery, education, entrepreneurship, and engagement”, the school is under the leadership of Dean Yash Gupta, former dean and professor of the Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California.  The program aims to reinvent the traditional business school toolkit with programs that are innovative, integrated, and international.

Among the hallmarks of the program are the Innovation for Humanity Project, which provides all Global MBA students with an international experience designed to develop agile and creative business leaders who understand how to build sustainable businesses in developing markets, and the Discovery to Market Project, a two-phase initiative that begins in the second semester. Using the vast pool of discoveries made in the health sciences and related fields at Johns Hopkins University, this project provides insight into translating a scientific discovery into a product or technology with potential for commercialization.

Classes will be held in 80,000 square feet of space on four floors of the new Legg Mason Tower in Baltimore’s Harbor East, a state-of-the-art waterfront building which will house classrooms, student space and offices for the dean, the faculty and staff.

Being in the inaugural class of a new program is not for everyone, but for students with a global and/or health oriented focus, the Johns Hopkins Global MBA is an intriguing possibility.
